16 Rivers assembly members defect to APC
16 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their defection was announced by Martin Amaewhule, the Speaker of the state assembly, during plenary on Friday.
Amaewhule said he would also be joining his colleagues in leaving the PDP.
He said, “Distinguished colleagues, very happily, let me announce that your Speaker has decided and has indeed written to my ward chairman about my decision to leave the PDP. APC is my new party.
“The major reason for leaving the PDP is because of the division in the party.”
The legislators who joined the APC are Dumle Maol, Major Jack, Linda Stewart, Franklin Nwabochi, Azeru Opara, Smart Adoki, Enemi George, Solomon Wami, Igwe Aforji, Tekena Wellington, Looloo Opuende, Peter Abbey, Arnold Dennis, Chimezie Nwankwo and Ofiks Kabang.
Recall that on Wednesday, 32 members of the assembly passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu.
They implored the president to seek re-election, following a motion moved by the House Leader, Major Jack.
