
Police Arrest Suspected bandit, rescue kidnap victim in Gombe
The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a suspected bandit, rescued a kidnap victim, and recovered counterfeit United States dollars in operations carried out across the state.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the feat was achieved through intelligence-led and proactive operations by officers of the command.
He said operatives of Pindiga Divisional Police Headquarters arrested a suspect, Shehu Hussaini, from Mansur Village in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, on January 18, 2026.
According to the statement, the suspect was intercepted during a stop-and-search patrol and found in possession of 13 live cartridges, a cutlass, knife and red Honda motorcycle.
“The suspect could not give a satisfactory account of the items. Preliminary investigation revealed he was allegedly on his way to deliver the cartridges to his commander in a forest area within the Mansur axis of Alkaleri LGA,” DSP Abdullahi said.
In another development, the command rescued a kidnapped victim, Hon. Hassan Reuben of Nahuta Village, Tula, Kaltungo Local Government Area, Gombe State.
He explained that the victim was abducted on January 20, 2026, but was rescued unhurt the following day through a joint operation involving police operatives from Awak and Tula divisions, vigilantes and local hunters in Tule Berbere, near Kunge Village in Awak, Kaltungo LGA.
DSP Abdullahi added that three women believed to be the spouses or accomplices of the kidnappers were also arrested at the scene.
They are Aisha Salihu, Fati Ado and Adama Buba, all from Luga Edi Kamo in Awak area of Kaltungo LGA.
