
FG committed to timely prosecution of terrorists – AGF
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has reiterated the federal government’s commitment to timely prosecution of suspects implicated in mass casualty attacks, kidnap-for-ransom networks, extremist recruitment and terror financing activities.
Fagbemi, who spoke on Monday at the opening of the 2025/2026 Legal Year of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, said the federal government remained deeply committed to combating terrorism through a combination of kinetic and non-kinetic strategies which recognised swift administration of justice as a vital complement to military and intelligence operations.
He pleaded with the appellate court to accord accelerated hearing to commercial cases which outcomes bore directly on the economy, investor confidence and the prosperity of our people.
In her speech, the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, bemoaned the impact of endless litigations on the resources of the court.
She said during the outgoing 2024/2025 Legal Year, the Court of Appeal received 5,225 appeals and 9,906 motions across its 20 divisions and determined 3,193 appeals and heard 5,623 motions.
