Daily Trust Dialogue Commences in Abuja
The 23rd Annual Daily Trust Dialogue is currently ongoing at the Nigerian Air Force Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja.
Political leaders, traditional rulers, policymakers, scholars, and media executives are on ground to examine Nigeria’s democratic journey.
The dialogue, organised by the Media Trust Group, is themed “Nigeria’s Fourth Republic: What Is Working and What Is Not.”
Chairman of the occasion and former President of the Nigerian Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, led a distinguished gathering that included His Imperial Majesty, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja; the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Mr. Sunday Dare; former Governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Boni Haruna; former ministers; senior journalists and academics, including Professor Tunde Adeniran; as well as members of the Board of Media Trust Group and its subsidiaries.
In his welcome address, a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of Media Trust Group, Manir Dan Ali, said the Trust Dialogue was established to provide a platform for robust engagement on national issues through the exchange of diverse and sometimes divergent views.
He said the very idea of dialogue presupposes an effort to interrogate differing perspectives, distil meaning from them, and ultimately enrich public understanding of matters of national importance.
Dan Ali noted that since the initiative began 23 years ago, the Trust Dialogue has consistently examined critical political, economic, and social issues affecting the country, while serving as a meeting point for ideas that shape public policy and national discourse.
According to him, the theme for this year’s edition was carefully chosen after extensive deliberations by the organising committee to reflect the realities of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic and the challenges confronting the nation.
The ongoing annual forum is expected to feature keynote addresses and panel discussions focused on governance, democratic institutions, accountability, and the future of Nigeria’s democracy.
