Kwara varsity shuts satellite campus over insecurity
The Kwara State University (KWASU) has announced the temporary relocation of staff and students from its Ilesha Baruba campus to the main campus in Malete as a precautionary security measure.
The move follows recent bandit attacks in parts of the state and comes weeks after the government closed schools in local governments affected by bandit attacks.
The state government has assured the public that it is working with the federal government to restore peace in affected areas.
The Ilesha Baruba campus, located in Baruten Local Government Area, recently experienced security incidents before calm was restored.
In a statement signed by the Acting Director of University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, KWASU said a recent visit to the campus showed that the environment remained calm and that staff and students were in good spirits despite the planned relocation.
The university added that preparations were in top gear for its 13th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled to begin on December 9 and run through the week, noting that the Ilesha Baruba community is expected to participate in the activities at the Malete main campus.
