
2 die in well, water accidents in Kano
Two persons have died in separate water-related incidents in Ungogo and Karaye Local Government Areas of Kano State.
Confirming the incidents, the Kano State Fire Service said its Emergency Response Unit received distress calls on the two cases on February 5, 2026.
In a statement issued by the its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the agency said the first incident occurred at Bachirawa, Kwanar Madugu, in Ungogo Local Government Area.
According to the statement, the Fire Service received a distress call from Sulaiman Abdullahi Tela, after an 18-year-old man, identified as Yusif Malam Gwani Isah, fell into an open water source.
“A rescue team from the agency’s headquarters was immediately mobilised to the scene. On arrival, the team entered the water and retrieved the victim unconscious. He was later confirmed dead,” the statement said.
“The deceased was subsequently handed over to the Ward Head of Bachirawa quarters, Jibrin Isah,” it added.
The second incident occurred at Kofar Yamma, Karaye town, in Karaye Local Government Area.
The statement said the Karaye Branch Office of the Fire Service received a distress call from one of its personnel, PFS II Murtala Magaji, reporting that an eight-year-old boy, identified as Abdussalam Ibrahim, had fallen into a well.
“A rescue team from the Karaye branch was immediately mobilised to the scene. The victim was rescued unconscious but later confirmed dead,” the statement noted.
The child was later handed over to his father, Malam Musa Mudi.
The Kano State Fire Service expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and urged residents to take precautionary measures around open wells and water sources to safeguard lives.
