
Man held over alleged supply of arms
Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps have arrested a suspect, Ibrahim Mohammed, who supplies arms to kidnappers in the state. The suspect was reportedly intercepted by officials of the corps on his way to deliver a firearm to his team members in the bush around the Oluku Bypass in Benin City. The suspect, who hails from Borno State, was alleged to be a member of a kidnapping syndicate that had been terrorising the Edo and environs lately. The Corps Deputy Commander (Operations), Richard Balogun, explained that there had been reported cases of kidnapping incidents around the Oluku Bypass on the Benin-Akure road and environs lately, which prompted the corps to place surveillance in the area. He said the team, while on patrol, received intelligence of a man going to deliver a gun to a kidnapping gang in the locality. He said, “A few hours later, the suspect was spotted on a motorcycle with a bag and was intercepted. And during a search on the bag, a gun concealed in it was recovered.” Balogun further said the suspect and the gun had since been handed over to the police.
