Man bags life imprisonment for rape in Yobe
The Yobe State High Court sitting in Gujba Local Government Area has sentenced a 31-year-old man, Ali Kwano, to life imprisonment for raping a 12-year-old girl.
The convict was arraigned before the higher court for luring the girl into a classroom at Junior Day Secondary School Bumsa, Gujba, where he forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
The girl, Lubabatu Haruna, was raped by the convict when he told her that she should wait for him inside a classroom on the pretence that he would buy her beans cake (akara).
When the victim entered the classroom, he grabbed her hands, covered her mouth and pushed her to the ground and forcefully had intercourse with her.
The presiding judge, Justice Amina Shehu, found the convict guilty and therefore sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The court sentenced the convict to life imprisonment pursuant to Section 3 of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, Yobe State 2020.
