Yuletide: Cleric urges govt to tackle insecurity, make road travel safer
L-R: Augustine Oghumah, Diocesan Bishop, Lagos Diocese; Monday Aghaeze, ordained Prophet, Oluti Archdeaconry, and Gilbert Essien, Venerable-in-charge, Apapa Archdeaconry, all Christ Army Church of Nigeria, during the 2025 annual general conference, held recently in Oluti Archdeaconry with the theme, ‘Open Heavens,’ where Aghaeze was officially ordained Prophet.
Augustine Oghumah, the diocesan bishop of Christ Army Church of Nigeria, Lagos Diocese, has called on the government to live up to its expectations in tackling the growing spate of insecurity to make traveling on the road safer for Nigerians as the yuletide approaches.
“The government should stand to their responsibility. Once they stand to their responsibility, the country cannot be so sick. Because right now, there is fear everywhere. To go to the North now is a problem; especially the life of Christians,” Oghumah said during the recent ordination service of the Oluti diocese of the church in Lagos.
According to him, the government has handled the growing insecurity across the country with kid glob. He said the government appear to be weak and lagging behind in executing the war against insurgency, banditry, and kidnapping in Nigeria.

Oghumah said many Nigerians might not be able to travel for Christmas based on the level of insecurity in the country. “Because of the fear of the unknown; so the government should rise up to the task.”
Speaking on the theme of his sermon, ‘Open Heaven,’ the clergyman said that Nigerians need total connection with the divine. According to him, divine connection connotes connecting with Jesus, by being born again. “When you have divine connection with God, then the heavens will be open unto you.”
Gilbert Essien, Venerable-in-Charge, Apapa Archdeaconry, Christ Army Church of Nigeria, urged the newly ordained prophet to be submissive and sensitive to the Spirit of God.
He also urged the ordained prophet to pay keen attention to God for direction in whatever he wants to do. “And the Lord will direct him. He will never leave him alone.
“There is no delay with God. Delay does not mean denial; and now that he has gotten that ordination, I have to pray that the Lord will strengthen him, grant him wisdom and empower him spiritually so that he can carry out the work effectively,” Essien said.
