APC’s gain of more governors shows Nigerians’ trust — Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says the steady increase in the number of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress reflects Nigerians’ growing confidence in the ruling party.

Speaking on Saturday at the closing session of the two-day Progressive Governors’ Forum meeting in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu said the rise from “barely 18 or 19” governors in previous years to 25 today shows that Nigerians continue to trust the APC’s vision and leadership.

“We are now 25 progressive governors. When we began, we were barely 18 or 19. This growth shows that Nigerians trust our party’s direction,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu, who hosted the forum, commended his colleagues for their commitment to national development and their loyalty to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“I want to sincerely thank my colleagues for staying through more than 12 hours of rigorous discussions. It is never easy, but you all showed exceptional commitment to the progress of our nation,” he said.

The governor praised the unity and cultural representation displayed during the meeting, describing it as a strong demonstration of “unity in diversity.”

“You came prepared, you represented your states beautifully, and Lagos is proud to host you. People back home will ask you for this cultural experience because you truly showed what unity in diversity means,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu also announced that Lagos would host its first cultural festival in nearly a decade on Dec. 27, noting that about 10,000 residents would participate in the event.

“We are excited to revive this tradition and celebrate our culture in a grand way,” he said.

He said the governors used the meeting to examine key national issues, especially security and welfare, and agreed to submit collective recommendations to the president.

“For the past 12 hours, we have asked ourselves tough questions: How do we better the lives of our people? How do we support our president and strengthen our country by supporting the national agenda?” he stated.

Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the forum’s loyalty to President Tinubu, whom he described as “a father, leader and humble statesman.”

“We have committed ourselves to supporting Mr President and ensuring his government succeeds and succeeds very well,” he said.

The governor also thanked the PGF members for their continued support for Lagos as “a model of progressive governance,” adding that unity within the party enhances the effectiveness of government.

“When the party is united, government becomes stronger, and governance becomes more effective,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu assured residents that Lagos would remain steadfast in delivering results across all sectors.

“We will not disappoint our party at the national, regional or state levels. Lagos understands its leadership responsibilities, and we are ready and fully committed,” he said.

He urged APC members and residents to maintain unity as the festive season approaches.

“We remain committed, we remain progressive, and we remain focused on delivering for our people. Lagos will continue to stand strong for the progress of our party and our nation,” he added.
