
7 Quran champions receive cars, cash in Abuja
Seven participants emerged winners at the week-long National Quranic Recitation Competition organised by the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) in Abuja.
Representatives from 25 states of the federation competed in six categories of Hizb memorisation of the Holy Quran, covering both recitation and interpretation.
Announcing the results, the National Secretary of the JIBWIS Quranic Recitation Competition, Abdulmumin Aliyu, declared Aliyu Abdurrahman from Kaduna State as the overall winner.
Abdurrahman competed in the 60 Hizb memorisation category, including interpretation. He was rewarded with a Toyota Corolla, as well as cash, clothing materials and books.
Six other cars were presented to winners in various categories, including Abdullahi Salisu Yahaya and Idris Saminu Ash’hab, both from Kano State; Ibrahim Abdullahi Nur from Yobe State; and Mahmood Muhammad from Sokoto State.
Other participants who placed second, third, fourth and fifth in different categories received prizes such as motorcycles, freezers and cash.
The JIBWIS National Chairman of Ulama, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, expressed gratitude to donors who supported the programme.
He acknowledged contributions from the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, who donated two cars; Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, who donated N40m; and members of the House of Representatives, Abubakar Kabir Bichi (Kano) and Mukhtar Aliyu Betara (Borno), who each donated N50m.
In a goodwill message, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’adu Abubakar—represented by the Sarki of Bwari in the FCT, Alhaji Muhammad Auwal Ijakoro—congratulated the winners and commended all stakeholders for ensuring the success of the competition.
