
Military repels B/Haram/ISWAP invasion of Borno community
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists’ attack on a military base and other surrounding settlements in Pulka community of Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Some armed members of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists at about midnight on Sunday attacked a military base and some locations, which led to the destruction of some properties, but no casualty was recorded at press time.
Confirming the incident on Sunday, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) applauded the troops for the timely reinforcement from Kirawa, Ngoshe and Gwoza towns, which helped to save many lives and property.
Ndume, former Chairman Senate Committee on Army, admitted that scores of the insurgents were forced to withdraw and fled in disarray, having realised that they were overwhelmed by firepower from troops.
“I want to commend the efforts of troops of Operation HADIN KAI for their commitment and sacrifices, which led to the repeal and defeat of some Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists who attempted to infiltrate the Military Base and other surrounding settlements in Pulka Community of Gwoza local government area in Borno state.
“The timely reinforcement of troops from Kirawa, Ngoshe and Gwoza towns saved many lives and property in Pulka’s terrorist failed invasion last Sunday night,” Ndume added.
B/Haram kills captive to force payment of ransom
Meanwhile, Boko Haram terrorists have killed one of the seven abducted fishermen to put pressure on the families of the abductees to pay the N20 million ransom payment in Doron Baga.
The insurgents had on 12th February 2026, abducted seven fishermen during an attack on the Kwatan Dadin Kowa fish market, in Doron Baga, a community in Kukawa LGA of Borno State.
According to sources, the victim, identified as Abakar Gambo, popularly known as ‘Man’, was murdered by the assailants on Friday, to pressure the victims’ families.
“The terrorists insisted on their demand for N20 million, warning that further consequences will follow if the ransom is not paid promptly,” he said.
Another source said that, until his death, Abakar worked as a wheelbarrow pusher at the market.
“We received the body of Abakar this morning. He was shot on the head by his abductors and died instantly.
“He was a very good friend of the market community; he had nothing to give to these terrorists.
“He only struggled to survive, always carrying goods for traders and getting paid for his work,” he said.
