‘Nigeria’s exit from FATF list shows FG’s anti-corruption commitment’
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has said that Nigeria’s exit from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list demonstrates the administration’s commitment to fighting corruption.
Speaking at the International Anti-Corruption Day organised by the Inter-Agency Task Team on Anti-Corruption and TUGAR, Fagbemi urged regulatory and financial institutions to collaborate to maintain financial integrity and global confidence. He highlighted the role of youths in curbing corruption, noting that: “A hopeful youth is harder to corrupt; an engaged youth is harder to mislead; an empowered youth is a powerful force for national transformation.”
He cited initiatives such as the 3 Million Technical Talents Programme (3MTT) and the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA) as critical in equipping young Nigerians with digital, ICT and innovation skills.
Fagbemi added that entrepreneurship programmes like the Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) and the Digital and Creative Enterprises Programme (iDICE) further reduced vulnerability to corrupt practices.
Jane Onwumere, head of TUGAR, warned that corruption fueled the “japa” wave, draining human capital and resources.
Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, DG of the Bureau of Public Procurement, noted that the bureau had saved over N2trn since 2017 and planned to launch a digital procurement portal to ensure transparency in government contracts.
Nigerians can now invest ₦2.5 million on premium domains and profit about ₦17-₦25 million. All earnings paid in US Dollars. Rather than wonder, click here to find out how it works.
