
Tinubu’s wife empowers 250 persons with disabilities in Ebonyi
The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) has empowered 250 persons with disabilities in Ebonyi State with financial grants to support and expand their small businesses as part of activities marking the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Mary-Maudline Ogbonna Nwifuru, the wife of the Governor, through her Foundation – Better Health for Rural Women, Children and IDPs (BERWO) also donated bags of rice, which were distributed to all beneficiaries.

The event, held at the Women Development Centre, Abakaliki, formed part of a nationwide programme where 9,500 beneficiaries across the 36 States, the FCT and security formations are receiving economic support under the RHI Economic Empowerment Programme.
Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria and National Chairman of the RHI, represented by the Ebonyi State RHI Economic Empowerment program Coordinator and wife of the Governor, said each State, including the FCT and POWA, would be receiving ₦50 million, while each beneficiary would receive ₦200,000 to strengthen existing businesses or start new ones.
Uzoamaka Nwifuru, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Felicia Nwankpuma, reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to inclusive governance. She expressed gratitude to Governor Francis Nwifuru and Tinubu for prioritising the welfare of persons with disabilities.

Chieme Franklin, President of Persons with Disabilities in Ebonyi State, appealed to Governor Nwifuru to assent to the Disability Commission Bill to further safeguard the rights of persons with disabilities in the State.
Some beneficiaries including Agbo Elizabeth, Ugwu Brenda, and Njoku Chinyere thanked President Bola Tinubu for initiating a programme that directly targets the poor and vulnerable.
