FCT NUT suspends strike, vows continued agitation for outstanding entitlements
The FCT wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has announced the suspension of its solidarity strike action with the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) of the FCT Administration.
The Chairman of the FCT NUT, Comrade Abdullahi Mohammed Shafas, announced the suspension while addressing newsmen at the Teachers’ House in Gwagwalada on Tuesday.
He explained that the suspension follows the broader industrial action embarked upon by JUAC and other affiliate unions of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the FCT.
According to him, the decision was a direct consequence of the reconciliatory meeting held with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on February 3, 2026, after which the congress directed its affiliate unions to suspend the strike.
“Given the above development, we enjoin all primary and secondary school teachers in the FCT to resume work immediately. We wish to assure our teachers that the union remains committed to continuous agitation for their outstanding entitlements,” he said.
The NUT chairman noted that while the union awaits the implementation of the meeting’s outcomes, it will keep teachers informed of any further actions.
He also expressed appreciation for the resilience and solidarity shown by members in sustaining the strike.
It will be recalled that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, met with joint labor leaders and affiliate unions on Monday to broker peace over the non-payment of outstanding entitlements for both FCTA and FCDA workers.
