A Lagos commuter has narrated a harrowing experience after entering a suspected one-chance commercial bus while heading to work.
In a video shared on TikTok which started trending on Tuesday, the woman said she boarded an empty bus with another female passenger, who sat at the back, while she took the front seat. Shortly after the vehicle moved, the conductor repeatedly instructed her to fasten the seatbelt and insisted she put her phone inside her bag, claiming she needed both hands to adjust the belt.
She disclosed that the conductor and another man began raising their voices, warning that they “did not want trouble” and insisting she hide her phone. After she complied, the conductor allegedly pulled at the seatbelt to distract her while an accomplice attempted to access her bag.
According to her, the men kept opening and closing the bus door, claiming the belt was stiff and urging her to look upward. She said she initially trusted a well-dressed male passenger beside her, assuming he was not part of the group.
She attempted to move to the back of the bus but realised her phone had already been taken. She said she immediately jumped out of the vehicle, threw her bag back inside, climbed in again, and demanded the phone.
The suspects, taken aback by her reaction, eventually returned the phone along with her balance before she exited the bus.
She warned Lagos residents to remain vigilant, noting that although she recovered her phone, confronting suspected one-chance operators was dangerous and could have ended differently.
