National Theatre hosts sixth Festival of Unity

The National Theatre held the sixth edition of its annual Festival of Unity, themed “The Return: Back to Our Roots, Forward to the Future”, on December 6 and 7, 2025, at the Entrance A Lawn of the Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos. The two-day festival celebrated national unity through a blend of culture, heritage, contemporary performances, and youth creativity.

The first day focused on contemporary performances, including music, dance, and spoken word, while the second day showcased cultural displays and other activities that highlighted Nigeria’s diversity and spirit of togetherness.

The General Manager and CEO of the National Theatre, Akintola Akerele, described this year’s edition as a celebration of Nigeria’s rich cultural tapestry. “We have so many tribes, cultures, and expressions across the country, and the event is all about celebrating that,” she said.

Representing Sterling Bank, the Chief Marketing Officer, Donatus Kpako, said the bank was proud to support a cultural event that promotes unity and peace across Nigeria.

Highlights of the festival included a contemporary dance performance by Enovate, spoken word by Cephas Afolabi, and a live band performance led by Segun Adefila. Audiences also enjoyed presentations by the National Troupe, cultural dances, and contemporary performance groups from Chocolate City and other artistic collectives.
