
Pillars crush Nasarawa Utd 3-0 as NPFL first stanza ends
Kano Pillars returned home with a bang after the “Masu Gida Boys” crushed title contenders Nasarawa United 3-0 as the first Round of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season ended yesterday.
In Pillars’ first match at the Sani Abacha Stadium since they were banished to the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium Katsina in October after crowd trouble, Mustapha Umar opened the scoring in the 28th minute for the hosts to lead 1-0 at the break.
On resumption, Chiedozie Okorie doubled the lead for Pillars in the 68th minute before Mustpaha Jibrin sealed the victory with the third in the 72nd minute.
Interestingly, three away victories were recorded as El-Kanemi Warriors, Katsina United, and Abia Warriors secured victories at Bayelsa United, Kun Khalifat, and Plateau United respectively.
While, El-Kanemi Warriors held firmly to a first half goal to win 1-0 in Yenagoa, Christopher Ezinwa struck in the 40th minute for Katsina United to beat Kun Khalifat 1-0 just as Abubakar Taheer’s 68th minute goal handed Abia warriors victory in Jos against Plateau United.
In Aba, Enyimba whipped 3SC 3-0. In a one way traffic situation, Ufere Chinedu scored the opener in the 16th minute, while Ezekiel Edidiong and Chidera Michael scored a goal each in the second half to complete the rout.
Elsewhere, newly promoted Barau FC fell 0-2 to Niger Tornadoes in Minna, David Sholumade scored in the 53rd minute as Rivers United edged Enugu Rangers 1-0 at home to maintain their position on top of the table, while Bala Imamu hit a brace as Wikki Tourists forced Wolves to a 2-2 draw in Oghara.
At the time of press, Ikorodu City were leading 1-0 against defending champions Remo Stars.
