Gombe: FG moves to pay officers disengaged in 2007
The Federal Government has commenced a verification exercise in Gombe State for public servants disengaged during the 2006–2007 public service reforms, to pay their long-overdue entitlements. The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Mr Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi, disclosed this while leading a federal government team to Gombe for the exercise. Arabi said the team comprises officials from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, as well as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and other government agencies. According to him, the visit was to ascertain and verify officers who were right-sized during the reforms but were never fully settled. “Unfortunately, for many years, their entitlements could not be paid, leaving many affected officers unattended to,” he said. He recalled that a similar verification was conducted two years ago for the Nigeria Immigration Service staff and that all verified officers had been fully paid. Arabi explained that the current exercise focuses on the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), describing it as the final batch of affected agencies. The BPSR boss disclosed that about 99.9 per cent of all eligible beneficiaries nationwide have already been settled.
