Authorities in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State have dismissed reports circulating on social media that armed men attacked a mosque in the area, killing an Imam and several worshippers.
The Chairman of the council, Ayuba Hashimu, described the reports as entirely false
“I don’t know of any mosque that was attacked, let alone the killing of an Imam or worshippers. The report is simply untrue,” he told our correspondent by telephone.
A member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly representing the area, Hon. Aminu Boza, also refuted the claims.
“No mosque was attacked on Saturday. I have no idea where that story came from, but it is not correct,” he said.
PUNCH Online had reported that the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria lamented the alleged kidnapping of six directors of the Ministry of Defence.
The union claimed the directors were abducted while travelling from Lagos to Abuja for a directorate-level promotion examination.
In another report, it was stated that suspected bandits attacked Alkalije village in Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing five people, including a pregnant woman.
Alkalije, a border community under Kilgori District, lies close to Silame Local Government Area and shares boundaries with parts of Kebbi State, an area notorious for frequent incursions by Lakurawa bandit groups.
