DW, Trust TV launch Afrimaxx Hausa to spotlight African creativity
African creativity took centre stage in Abuja as Deutsche Welle (DW) and Trust TV launched Afrimaxx Hausa, a platform designed to tell African stories through art, fashion, design and entertainment.
The launch brought together media professionals, cultural enthusiasts and creative artists across the continent, signalling a renewed effort to showcase Africa’s growing influence on global arts and culture.
The event featured engaging conversations, live performances and visual shows that highlighted the power of African imagination.
DW’s Head of History and Culture, Melanie von Marschalck, said, “Afrimaxx is a Pan-African magazine show aired weekly in 24 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.”
She noted that Afrimaxx started four years ago in English and has since built a Pan-African network of journalists and producers from Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Senegal, Mali and Nigeria.
Through authentic storytelling, the show spotlights inspiring creative stories shaping the continent’s future.
Media Trust Group’s Editorial Director, Ibrahim Shehu, said Afrimaxx Hausa offered an opportunity to reach younger and newer audiences eager for fresh creative content that evolves the African narrative. He expressed gratitude to DW, adding: “Thank you for trusting us and recognising the power of Hausa storytelling.”
He emphasised the importance of platforms like Afrimaxx Hausa, especially as many young Africans pursue careers in the creative industries.
A tech content creator, Tobi Ayeni and filmmaker, Prince Daniel Aboki, welcomed the development, describing it as a timely boost for emerging talent.
Other participants, including a digital journalist, Yusuf Aminu and creator, Halima Zanna, praised the platform for giving young people a space to learn, create and showcase their works.
Afrimaxx was conceived by DW as a multimedia lifestyle programme aimed at highlighting contemporary African creativity.
It was designed to profile African innovators in fashion, art, design, food, music and culture, areas where African influence is rapidly expanding but often underrepresented in mainstream global media.
