Police repel bandits’ attack in Kaduna, kill 2
The Kaduna State Police Command has repelled an attack by armed bandits on Idisu Village in Giwa Local Government Area of the state, killing two of the attackers and recovering firearms and ammunition.
The incident occurred on Saturday after intelligence reports indicated that a notorious bandit leader, identified as Kachalla Sanusi Bajira, was mobilising his gang to attack the community.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, adding that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest fleeing suspects.
According to Hassan, the bandits had imposed an illegal levy on residents of Idisu Village and threatened violence after the villagers failed to meet their demands.
Acting on the intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, directed the Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to mobilise operatives to the area.
A combined team of police operatives and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) was immediately deployed to Idisu Village, Idisu Ward, along the Bayan Kogi axis of Giwa LGA.
On arrival, the security team reportedly ran into an ambush laid by the bandits, leading to a gun battle. The police, aided by superior firepower, overpowered the attackers.
Two bandits were neutralised, while several others escaped into nearby bushes with gunshot wounds. Police recovered two firearms and five rounds of live ammunition from the scene.
