Gov. Buni Urges Lawmakers to Prioritise Economic Empowerment
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has urged National and State lawmakers to prioritise economic empowerment as part of the dividends of democracy for their people.
Governor Buni made the call during the distribution of empowerment items in Gashua, headquarters of Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State, on Saturday.
The empowerment items reportedly worth N100 million were facilitated and distributed by the member of the State House of Assembly representing Bade Central Constituency.
While distributing the items to beneficiaries, the governor said his administration remains committed to supporting businesses, vulnerable groups and party supporters.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Muhammad Garba Gagiyo, charged lawmakers to continue supporting businesses and strengthening the local economy to drive community development.
Commending the lawmaker for returning to his constituents with the empowerment initiative, Governor Buni said his administration would continue to work with lawmakers to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.
He urged other members of the State House of Assembly to emulate the Minority Leader of the House.
Earlier, the Minority Leader of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Hon. Sadiq Yahaya Attajiri, said at least 525 people in his constituency had been empowered.
The lawmaker said the distributed items comprised 60 electric bikes, 10 Boxer motorcycles and 10 bicycles, among others.
The lone PDP member in the House said the empowerment programme was aimed at appreciating the continued support of his constituents.
“I am fully committed to putting smiles on the faces of the people of Bade Central. They have shown their love and support by voting for me during the 2023 election.
“Although I am the only PDP member in the House, I remain committed to serving them in appreciation of the trust and responsibility reposed in me, and I am always ready to protect their interests,” he said.
Despite political differences with the ruling party in the state, the Minority Leader said he would continue to collaborate with the state government to provide the dividends of democracy to his people.
