The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti, Abayomi Fasina, has urged fresh students to build a strong foundation for their lives through their actions and choices.
This was disclosed in a statement by the varsity’s Public Relations Officer, Foluso Ogunmodede, made available to PUNCH Online on Monday
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony for 11,327 new students, held across the Oye Ekiti and Ikole Ekiti campuses, Fasina emphasised that only a solid foundation could guarantee stability and success.
He listed “honesty, integrity, curiosity, love for learning and resilience” as key elements, adding, “No one can escape challenges, but through resilience you can overcome and go places in life.”
In his address titled Building a House on the Solid Rock, Fasina told students, “A house that is built on the solid rock will stand strong, while the one built on the ground will fall. Let integrity guide your actions and choices.”
Describing the matriculation as a covenant with the university, he encouraged students to engage fully in campus life, saying, “The university is more than a place for lectures and examinations. You must strive to volunteer, serve in different endeavours and make yourselves wiser every day.”
He congratulated the students on their admission and challenged them to positively project the university’s name, noting the progress the institution has made under his administration. “The journey has been smooth to the glory of God. I have learned many things and put my trust in God,” he said.
The new students also took the matriculation oath, marking their official induction into the university community and their commitment to the responsibilities and conduct expected of them.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Tajudeen Opoola, Registrar Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim, Bursar Dr. Adebolanle Debo-Ajagunna, Librarian Dr. Olabode Olajide, deans of faculties, staff, students, parents, and well-wishers.
