Good Governance: Gov. Lawal Receives The Sun ‘Governor of The Year’ Award
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has been honoured with The Sun Newspaper’s Best Governor of the Year 2025 award.
The award was presented to the governor at the Sun Awards ceremony held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Expo Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.
A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the Sun Awards celebrate excellence and recognise individuals who have made significant contributions to their states and fields of endeavour.
According to the statement, Governor Lawal was recognised for his leadership style and the achievements of his administration, particularly in the area of good governance in Zamfara State.
The statement said the award reflects the progress recorded under the governor’s administration since his inauguration on May 29, 2023, noting that despite inheriting a depleted treasury, he has remained committed to his rescue and rebuilding agenda for the state.
It added that security has remained a top priority of the administration, with the state government investing billions of naira over the past two years to address security challenges in Zamfara.
The statement also highlighted achievements recorded in key sectors including health, education, infrastructure, the economy, as well as workers’ welfare and empowerment.
According to the statement, the recognition by The Sun Newspapers is expected to serve as a morale booster for the administration to intensify efforts at delivering good governance in the state.
It further recalled that in December last year, Zamfara State emerged as the best-performing state in the North West under the Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge.
