Illegal mining: EFCC nabs 10, impounds trucks on Kwara-Oyo- highway
Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 10 persons for their alleged involvement in illegal mining activities in parts of Kwara State.
The suspects were apprehended along the Ilorin–Ogbomosho highway following actionable intelligence regarding the unlawful excavation and transportation of solid minerals.
According to the commission, the group consists of nine truck drivers and one escort.
In a statement by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity, the EFCC noted that the suspects were intercepted during a well-coordinated operation and taken into custody for further investigation.
The statement listed the solid minerals recovered from the trucks to include lithium, tin, and lepidolite.
The commission further revealed that the suspects failed to produce valid licenses, permits, or any regulatory approvals to justify their mining and transportation activities.
The trucks conveying the suspected illegally mined minerals were impounded during the operation, the commission added.
The EFCC stated that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
