Ganduje: APC must unite ahead future elections
A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has cautioned party members against creating unnecessary hierarchies among aspirants.
He warned that such attitudes could deepen internal divisions and weaken the party ahead of future elections.
Ganduje, who spoke during a women stakeholders’ meeting, said the tendency to elevate some aspirants above others was counterproductive and capable of undermining the party’s cohesion.
“That is why the chairman is saying we should stop separating candidates or aspirants by claiming one is above the other. Such thinking will only bring division,” he said.
He recalled the last governorship election, stating that the contest was clearly one-sided. “During the election, there was a governorship candidate fielded was there really a contest? We all knew it was between an elephant and a rat. How do you compare the two?” Ganduje said.
Using analogies to stress his point, he added: “What happens when an elephant steps on a rat? And when a rat climbs on top of an elephant, how does it feel? It may even think it is giving the elephant a massage.”
He noted that while party members were free to network, consult widely, and build alliances, unity must prevail when it comes to settling for a consensus candidate.
“So, when the time comes, we are not saying anyone should stop reaching out, look for like minds, make phone calls, meet people. But when it comes to coming together in unity and agreeing on a particular person, that is where the problem begins,” he said.
Ganduje emphasised the need for discipline and collective decision-making, saying the APC must remain focused and united to maintain its electoral strength.
