Sokoto Rep, Bashir Gorau, awards Scholarships to over 2,000 Constituents

Member representing Gada-Goronyo Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, Hon Bashir Usman Gorau, on Monday, disbursed a total of N101.4 million as scholarship grants to over 2,000 students from his constituency, cutting across tertiary institutions nationwide.

The beneficiaries include students studying in federal, state and private tertiary institutions, a decision the lawmaker said accounted for the delay in the disbursement, as he was determined to ensure inclusiveness.

Speaking at the scholarship disbursement ceremony held at the main auditorium of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto the lawmaker described education as the foundation of economic development, stressing that every developed economy attained its status through deliberate investment in human capital.

“This is for developmental purposes and for the future of our constituency. Every economy you see globally that has developed started by building its human capital. You can only develop your human resources through education, proper healthcare and sustainable livelihoods,” he said.
