ATBU Distances Self from Disruption at Senate C’ttee Hearing
The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has distanced itself from the disruption of proceedings of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund during a public hearing on a bill seeking to amend the law establishing the university.
In a statement on Saturday, Head of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa, said the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund had commenced a public hearing on a bill sponsored by the senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Alhaji Shehu Buba Umar.
The bill seeks to amend the law establishing ATBU from a science and technology based university to a conventional one.
Bappa said, “This hearing began on Thursday, 11th December, 2025, at around 2pm. However, the process was adjourned due to a disruption of the procedure by a group of Youth who claimed to be members of the Alumni of the University, and some of the media outlets across the country have reported it as such.”
He explained that the university found the development disturbing and was compelled to clarify its position.
Bappa explained, “In view of this disturbing information, the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, wishes to distance itself from the action of these impostors who are not graduates of the University. The ATBU prides itself with graduating disciplined students who have continuously been good ambassadors of the University across the globe for more than four decades. Hence, the University is ever confident that its graduates will never engage in any action that will disrespect the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He added, “While the University regrets the action that caused the adjounment of the hearing, we equally use this medium to draw the attention of all stakeholders to be wary of any persons claiming to be graduates of the University in any further engagements with or on behalf of the University.”
