Soldiers rescue kidnap victim at Kano–Katsina border
Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Faruruwa have rescued a kidnap victim during a security operation along the Kano–Katsina border.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of Sunday, December 28, 2025, following credible intelligence on the movement of bandits from Daurawa and Kira areas of Katsina State towards Kano.
The spokesperson of 3 Brigade, Major Babatunde Zubairu, said troops operating from the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Yankwada, mobilised a fighting patrol to intercept the bandits.
Major Zubairu said the troops made contact with the bandits at Unguwan Dogo and Unguwan Tudu communities, where a fierce exchange of gunfire ensued.
He said, “The bandits were overwhelmed by superior firepower and were forced to retreat in disarray towards Matazu LGA of Katsina State.”
He said one kidnap victim, identified as Rabiu Alhaji Halilu (38), was rescued with a gunshot wound on his leg.
He added that the troops also recovered three motorcycles, two mobile phones, as well as an undisclosed number of cattle believed to have been rustled, abandoned by the fleeing bandits.
He urged residents of the affected areas to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations against banditry and kidnapping in the region.
