Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State on Sunday flagged off the distribution of empowerment tools to 2,260 youths trained across various skills acquisition institutes revived by his administration after years of abandonment.
The governor said the initiative was aimed at equipping young men and women with entrepreneurial and technical skills to promote self-reliance, economic resilience and job creation across the state.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony held at the Open Space Theatre, Government House, Kano, Yusuf said the beneficiaries were trained in digital technology, agriculture, creative arts, driving and journalism, among others.
He disclosed that the Informatics Institute graduated 250 beneficiaries in its third cycle, bringing the total number trained to 750 in areas such as computer programming, phone repairs, CCTV installation, solar installation and digital processing.
The governor further announced a cash support of N50,000 for each beneficiary across all institutes, while graduates of the Driving Institute would receive N100,000 each.
He disclosed that the state government plans to empower more than 50,000 youths through similar programmes in 2026.
The governor also announced the release of the remaining certificates of Kano students who studied at Near East University, Cyprus, after settling outstanding tuition fees inherited from the previous administration.
He recalled that his administration paid over N1.9 billion in outstanding tuition fees owed to the university, leading to the release of certificates to the affected students.
