B/Haram kills labourers in ambush
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have killed some labourers and injured several others along Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu Road in Borno State.
Weekend Trust gathered that the incident happened in Wajirko village, Damboa Local Government area on Thursday.
According to sources, the victims were local labourers working to restore a bridge destroyed by the Boko Haram insurgents.
Confirming the incident, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) sympathised with the families of the labourers and the soldiers killed during the encounter with Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
“Let me commiserate with the troops of Theatre Command North East Joint Task Force ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ (OPHK), members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and families of those killed during encounter with Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Sabon Gari village of Damboa local government area
“I also sympathise with the people of Harang and other surrounding communities in Hawul Local Government Area, where some terrorists invaded and killed one person with destruction of houses and other property recently.
“I want to urge the military, especially troops of OPHK not to be deterred by these pockets of terrorists attacks, but to remain committed and steadfast in order to end the over 16-year war.”
One of the sources said that over 10 people were killed while other sources said the victims were over 20.
“Following the assault, ten of the deceased, identified as Muslims, were buried at the emir’s palace in Biu in accordance with Islamic rites,” he said.
According to sources, the military tried to repel the attack, but the damage had already been done before they engaged the insurgents.
