Maresca reaffirms commitment to Chelsea job amid outburst
Enzo Maresca has reaffirmed his commitment to his job at Chelsea, despite last weekend’s comments that he had suffered his “worst 48 hours” since moving to Stamford Bridge.
The 45-year-old made the remarks after Chelsea’s 2-0 home victory over Everton on Saturday, criticising unnamed parties for failing to support him and his players, while stressing that his comments were not directed at the club’s supporters.
The Italian tactician declined to expand on the issue when he faced the media on Monday, on the eve of Chelsea’s League Cup quarter-final against third-tier Cardiff.

He appeared impatient with repeated requests to clarify comments that have fuelled speculation he was taking aim at the club’s owners or sporting directors.
“I respect your opinion, and I respect people’s opinions,” he said. “But again, I don’t have anything to add. My focus is just on tomorrow’s game, where we can achieve a third semi-final in 18 months since I joined the club.”
He also reiterated that his remarks were not aimed at Chelsea fans. “I said after the game that I love Chelsea supporters. They deserve the best,” Maresca added.
Asked directly if he remained committed to the Chelsea job, the former Leicester City boss replied, “Absolutely, yes.”
Maresca, who took charge at Stamford Bridge in July 2024, enjoyed early success by winning the UEFA Conference League and the Club World Cup in his first season.
Chelsea are currently fourth in the Premier League and remain in contention for automatic qualification to the Champions League last 16.
Despite the pressure that comes with managing the club, Maresca said he is enjoying the challenge. “When you are the Chelsea manager, you understand that the expectations are higher,” he said.
