Seyi Makinde says cross-border bandits responsible for Oyo park attack
Seyi Makinde has said the attack on a National Park office in Oloka village, Oriire Local Government Area, which left five forest guards dead, was carried out by bandits who crossed into Oyo State from outside its borders.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Makinde described the incident as a criminal attack and said it resulted in the deaths of five officers of the National Park Service while on duty.
“Earlier today, there was a criminal attack by bandits at the National Park Office, Oloka Village, which resulted in the death of five National Park Service forest guard officers,” he wrote. “This is a devastating loss of the lives of personnel in the course of carrying out their lawful duties.”

Makinde said preliminary findings by security agencies showed that the attackers entered the state to carry out the operation. He added that security agencies were working jointly to contain the situation and prevent further violence.
The governor urged residents, particularly those in Oriire and other border communities, to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives.
“The security agencies have restored normalcy and deployed more personnel to the area,” he said, adding that his administration would respond “decisively” to prevent a recurrence of the attack.
