Troops kill B/Haram Commander, others, recovers N37m
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have intercepted a vehicle conveying five occupants and recovered N37 million cash carefully concealed in bags in Borno State.
This was disclosed in a statement by the spokesman of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, on Monday.
He said the operation, which was carried out by the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Chabbal Checkpoint, also recovered multiple mobile phones suspected to be linked to terrorist activities.
The statement reads: “Troops of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI have sustained the operational momentum generated from their recent successful defensive actions in PULKA and Madara-Girau, transitioning decisively into deliberate logistics strangulation operations aimed at crippling terrorist sustainment networks across the theatre.
“These coordinated actions reinforce OPHK’s determination to maintain the initiative, deny terrorists freedom of action, and systematically dismantle their supply architecture.
“At about 0530 hours on 16 February 2026, troops of Sector 1, in conjunction with Vigilante Forces, executed a well-coordinated night ambush along a known terrorist crossing point used by ISWAP elements transiting from the Cameroon axis into Nigeria.
“The terrorists, unaware of the troops’ tactical deployment, ran into effective enfilade fire and were forced to withdraw in disarray.
“Subsequent exploitation of the contact area resulted in the recovery of a sizeable cache of critical logistics supplies assessed to be meant for terrorist resupply.
“This interception significantly disrupts their sustainment capacity and operational reach within the area. Troops remain in firm control of the area and are consolidating gains to facilitate further deliberate exploitation.
“In a related development, troops at Forward Operating Base Chabbal Checkpoint intercepted a suspicious vehicle conveying five occupants and recovered approximately Thirty-Seven Million Naira (₦37,000,000.00) carefully concealed in bags, alongside multiple mobile phones suspected to be linked to terrorist activities. This interception represents a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle financial conduits suspected to support terrorist logistics and operational activities.
“These coordinated actions demonstrate that OPHK is proactively tightening the noose on terrorist supply lines by targeting both their physical movement corridors and financial enablers. The sustained pressure being applied across key transit routes and support networks reflects a deliberate strategy to weaken the terrorists from within, and limit their capacity to project force,” Uba stated.
Likewise, he added that OPHK Troops thwarted attacks in Pulka and Mandaragirau axis which led to the elimination of senior commander identified as Abou Aisha who sustained a critical gunshot injury to the neck leading to his death alongside scores of Terrorists with recovery of arms and ammunition by troops, even as some members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) who were complementing efforts of the Troops paid the supreme price.
Uba noted that some Soldiers who sustained injuries were immediately evacuated by Air Component of OPHK and the Nigerian Army Aviation platforms.
