Man United edge Everton with Sesko strike, move into EPL top 4

Manchester United edged Everton 1-0 in the English Premier League on Monday night, thanks to Benjamin Sesko’s second half strike.

The Slovenia international saved Man United at West Ham last week, and he came on as a substitute to make the difference tonight with the only goal of the match, as the red devils claimed all three points against a stubborn opponent.

A cagey first half at Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium produced few moments to remember, but Amad Diallo saw an effort cleared off the line as both sides went into the break goalless.

David Moyes’ Everton continued to trouble Man United’s defence without success, and Michael Carrick’s side scored against the run of play from a three-pass counter attack. Matheus Cunha’s long ball forward was collected by Bryan Mbeumo who put it on a plate for Sesko to slot into the bottom corner.

It is the former RB Leipzig striker’s seventh EPL goal, and the 22 years old striker has netted three in the last four matches. The summer signing had another chance to double his tally on the night but he could not get around Jordan Pickford when clean through on goal.

The Old Trafford side returned to winning ways with victory at fulltime, and remains unbeaten since Carrick took over.

Man United improved to 48 points from 27 matches and moved up to fourth place, three points ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea in the race for a top-four finish.
