The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has praised the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), for what he described as a “swift and professional intervention” that halted the attempted coup in the Republic of Benin. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, on Monday, the monarch lauded the minister for demonstrating “rare commitment to democratic governance on the African continent.” Oluwo said Musa’s action, coming just days after his appointment, had elevated Nigeria’s reputation as a stabilising force in West Africa. Describing the defence minister as a gallant officer, the monarch said Musa’s track record showed he was the right peg in the round hole, adding that his long-standing defence of democratic structures at home and in neighbouring countries portrayed him as a patriot and a true democrat. “Your timely intervention in restoring democracy in the Republic of Benin is not only a mark of loyalty but also a testament to merit and credibility. You have raised the bar for Nigeria as the hope of the black race,” Oluwo said. He further expressed strong confidence in the minister’s ability to tackle insecurity across Nigeria, saying Musa had the discipline, experience, and patriotic zeal required to strengthen the country’s defence architecture. The monarch prayed for the minister’s success and urged him to continue championing peace, democracy, and stability on the continent.
