UCL: Chelsea fans stabbed by angry Napoli supporters in Italy
Two Chelsea fans have reportedly been stabbed in Italy by suspected Napoli supporters ahead of the Blues’ UEFA Champions League match in Naples on Tuesday night.
The incident occurred in the Italian city on Tuesday, with witnesses claiming the Chelsea supporters were chased through the streets by up to 20 Napoli supporters. Both victims were rushed to the hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The two men were part of a larger group of Chelsea fans who had been socialising in the city ahead of the high-profile European fixture.
A close friend of one of the injured supporters told The Sun:
“We were at one bar, had a couple of drinks, then decided to go to another bar. As we were walking, we turned right, and then there was a group of about 20 fans shouting and asking where we were from.
“We all ran, but my mate got grabbed and started talking to them. He then got stabbed in the lower leg. He went to the hospital, and they said he should be fine, but it was scary.”
Naples police have yet to release an official statement on the alleged attack.
Chelsea later confirmed the incident and issued a warning to supporters via their official social media channels.
“The club is aware of an incident that took place on Tuesday evening in Naples. Two fans are being treated in the hospital, having sustained non-life-threatening injuries,” Chelsea said in a statement.
“The club would like to remind all supporters to exercise extreme caution whilst in the city and take note of the advice shared ahead of this fixture.”
Chelsea have advised fans not to walk alone in the city and to avoid wearing clothing that identifies them as Chelsea supporters.
