Gov. Lawal commissions 40-bed PHC in Gusau, commends lawmaker
Governor Dauda Lawal has commissioned the renovated and expanded Dr. Karima Primary Healthcare Centre in Tudun Wada, Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the project was executed under the 2025 Constituency Projects of the member representing Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, Hon. Kabiru Amadu Mai Palace, as part of his interventions in the health sector.
According to the statement, the facility was upgraded from a 10-bed primary healthcare centre to a 40-bed capacity centre, with improved infrastructure and equipment.
Speaking at the commissioning, Governor Lawal expressed satisfaction with what he described as the lawmaker’s significant contribution to the health sector, noting that it aligns with his administration’s six-point agenda.
The governor said the deliverables across key sectors such as security, education, health, agriculture, infrastructure and economic development were steadily being implemented, adding that the state was on the path to prosperity.
He said the government had adopted a comprehensive healthcare approach covering essential medicines, preventive care, immunisation, antenatal and nutrition services, water, sanitation and hygiene, as well as improved healthcare financing, describing the intervention by the lawmaker as timely.
Governor Lawal noted that primary healthcare facilities play a critical role in delivering first-line medical services to communities and complement the functions of secondary and tertiary health institutions.
He also disclosed that the lawmaker is constructing a complete ward at the Shagari Primary Healthcare Centre in Gusau and renovating three blocks at the General Hospital, Magami.
In addition, the governor said Hon. Mai Palace is constructing about 30 classroom blocks in several secondary and primary schools across the constituency, as well as a 250-capacity Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre in Tsafe.
Lawal commended the lawmaker and others who, he said, are complementing the government’s development initiatives through the provision of critical infrastructure and empowerment programmes.
Earlier, Hon. Kabiru Amadu Mai Palace thanked the governor for commissioning the upgraded facility, describing primary healthcare centres as crucial to providing first-line medical services to communities.
He said his decision to support the project was informed by its importance and its alignment with the governor’s six-point agenda.
