PDP in Plateau remains strong despite Mutfwang’s resignation – Jang
Jonah David Jang, former Plateau State governor and ex-Senator, has reacted to the formal resignation of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the development as a personal decision taken in pursuit of what the governor believes is purposeful leadership and effective service delivery.
Jang acknowledged that Governor Mutfwang has officially withdrawn from the PDP to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement by Clinton Garuba, his media consultant, issued to Journalists on Friday in Jos, Jang disclosed that Governor Mutfwang had earlier informed him of his intention to defect to the ruling party, citing the interest of Plateau State as his primary motivation.
Jang noted that while the decision may generate political debate, it remains the governor’s constitutional right.
Reacting to concerns among party faithful, Jang reassured PDP members and supporters across Plateau State that the party remains united and stable despite the governor’s exit.
“The PDP in Plateau State remains strong, liberal, and firmly positioned to continue playing its vital role in Nigeria’s democratic development,” he said.
He further emphasised that the party would not be distracted by the defection, adding, “The PDP will continue to engage constructively with its members, strengthen internal democracy, and advance policies that promote inclusive governance and national development.
While wishing Governor Mutfwang well in his new political journey, Jang described himself as a father figure who remains available to offer guidance when needed. He urged the governor to stay focused on delivering good governance to the people of Plateau State, stressing that political power ultimately belongs to the electorate.
Jang also charged those who may follow the governor into the APC to place the collective interest of Plateau State above partisan considerations, expressing hope that the unfolding political realignments would, in the end, benefit the people of the state.
