APC inaugurates convention c’ttee, mocks coalition
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari-led 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee.
Speaking during the inauguration, the National Chairman of APC, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda said the party’s victories in last weekend’s elections in Kano, Rivers and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) had “shut down all the noise from the opposition that Abuja belongs to them.”
“We demonstrated that there is no presence of the so-called coalition in all the states that the elections were conducted,” he added.
He told the committee that the coming event is not merely a gathering but an affirmation of democratic values, celebration of internal democracy and “a demonstration to Nigerians that APC remains the most organised, forward looking and the most viable political party anybody will stand election in Nigeria.”
Yilwatda, who told them that they had been called upon to plan and deliver a convention that would be transparent, inclusive, credible, befitting of a ruling party of great stature like the APC, charged the committee to rise above partisan interest and personal sentiment.
He said, “The National Working Committee (NWC) and the entire party structure will stand strong and ready to support you. You shall have the resources, cooperation and goodwill required to deliver on this mandate. Let history remember you today. We have set in motion the will that is required to get the convention and that will further strengthen our party and renew the collective will of our party members.”
Responding, the Chairman of the committee, Masari said the committee wholeheartedly accepted the responsibility with civility, great sense of duty and commitment to the ideals and aspirations of the party.
He thanked the APC leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in the committee and described the assignment as a greater responsibility to ensure that party process reflects orderliness, inclusiveness, transparency and respect for internal democracy.
He stressed the need to approach the assignment with maturity, fairness and strict adherence to the party’s constitution and guidelines.
He said, “Our objectives will be to conduct a civil and free convention that will strengthen and unify our party in order to reinforce confidence in the party’s internal mechanism. We shall work closely with the National Working Committee and all relevant organs of the party in coordination and effective delivery of the leadership and all members of our great party. This committee will deliver its mandate with impartiality and collective responsibility. We will consult widely. And act decisively in the overall interest of the party.
“The entire Nigerians looks up to the leadership of our party and we must demonstrate that. We must ensure discipline in our internal affairs and we must ensure the ambition of others do not lead to the destruction of the party. A successful convention will not only lead to our success but unite our party, the APC.”
While the former Governor of Katsina State and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Masari, serves as Chairman of the Committee, former Senate President, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, is appointed Vice Chairman I, while the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, will serve as Vice Chairman II.
